Responsibilities:

The physical plant of The New School encompasses approximately 1.3 million square feet of building floor space within various properties in New York City, mostly in the West Greenwich Village area. The University Center, presently under construction, is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2013. This position works within the Facilities Management Department and reports to the Assistant Chief Engineer / Chief Engineer for TUC. This Engineer, while on duty, is responsible for all Facilities Management operations, including all Academic and Residential operations, during and after the construction of The University Center.

DAILY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• During Construction:
o Liaises with all construction trades and trades management on a daily basis.
o Reviews and is familiar with all phases and aspects of the construction of The University Center.
o Reports any discrepancies in the building of and materials used in the building of The University Center.
o Assists the Engineer on duty with operating as needed all of the Facilities Management systems and associated equipment as they come online including but not limited to standpipe, sprinkler, refrigeration machines, controls systems, water systems, boiler / heating systems, fire alarm system, co-generation system, ice chiller system, etc.
o Obtains the required FDNY certificates for 65 5th Avenue (The University Center) as soon as possible including but not limited to S-12 (Citywide Sprinkler Maintenance), S-13 (Citywide Standpipe Maintenance), A-35 (High Pressure Compressor), F-95 (Interior Fire Alarm), F-01 (Fire Guard – Citywide for Impairment), F-60 (Fire Guard – Torch Use), F-94 (Fire Guard – Public Assembly), C-30 (Spray Booth Operations).
o Ensures all TNS, NYC, NYS, DOB, DEP, EPA, DEC, FDNY, OSHA, etc. policies and laws are followed properly.

During and After Construction:
o Assists the Engineer on duty with operating the day to day equipment of The University Center including but not limited to the operation of the chill water system, boilers, elevators, emergency generator, water systems, control systems, fire alarm system, performance stage and all applicable systems, energy management system, etc.
o Completes work as assigned.
o Responds to all building emergencies while on duty.
o Ensures that all TNS policies and procedures are followed properly.
o Completes other work as assigned by the Assistant Director of Facilities Management, Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer or Engineer on duty.
o Will perform tasks such as painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC among others tasks associated with the University Center.
o Assists in the setup and break down of special events and routine classes.
o Maybe required to lift and move heavy objects.
o Interacts with students, faculty, staff and administration on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Must be a member of or be able to become a member of IUOE Local 94.
-Must attend and complete the IUOE Local 94 Apprentice Training Program.
-Educational facilities experience preferred.
-Must have knowledge of Microsoft office suite programs.
-Working of Overtime is required.
