Reporting to the AVP of Student Equity & Access, the Coordinator of Student Veteran Services is the primary point of contact to provide services and coordinate resources for Veterans or their dependents, while ensuring compliance with federal and state directives in relation to US Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) educational benefits and serves as the advisor and advocate for veterans, active service members, reservists, and eligible dependents attending The New School.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Work with Strategic Enrollment Management to establish a recruitment strategy for veterans to attend The New School. Some travel will be required.

• Support all aspects of campus efforts directed to recruit, orient, educate, serve, retain and graduate student veterans and student military personnel.

• Be the primary communications liaison to provide a more seamless transition for veterans to The New School.

• Develop and review fiscal plans for prospective veteran students.

• Oversee administration of student veterans benefits within the Center for Student Success.

• Consult with Veterans regarding their academic concerns and assist them in accessing internal and external resources to address their needs; serve as a Veteran student advocate.

• Chairing the Yellow Ribbon working group to insure continuity from messaging to new and returning students, through the application process, and work with Financial Aid to determine eligibility and ultimately awards.

• Be the primary certifying officials for veterans and their dependents.

• Maintain records in conjunction with other certifying officials that comply with federal and state requirements, and prepare records and reports for corresponding audits on veteran student enrollment and success.

• Provide training and resources for the College’s certifying officials to ensure compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations governing veteran student benefits.

• Develop activities to create a community among The New School’s veterans in order to maintain our “military-friendly” designation.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree required. Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications:

4 years or more experience working with veterans and/or military service members strongly preferred on their military benefits.
