The Provost’s Office – Office of Research Support (ORS) at The New School seeks a Research Services Coordinator (Post-Award Faculty Liaison) to assist ORS and New School faculty and staff in all non-financial post-award research services. Recognizing the important role of social research (broadly defined) within The New School community and its impacts that extend beyond campus, the university is committed to supporting faculty, staff, and students in their research and creative and professional practices. ORS provides service to facilitate the advancement of The New School’s social research and sponsored activities, while ensuring the integrity of the institution’s research enterprise through proper stewardship of extramural funding.

Research will vary across schools, from traditional scholarly products to performances to exhibitions and design efforts. In keeping with the mission of The New School, it makes sense to think of research broadly and inclusively, while keeping distinctions between different kinds of efforts clear.

ORS strives to provide the highest quality of support to faculty, staff, and research administrators. The Research Services Coordinator will be a valuable spokesperson for ORS and The New School. Under the supervision of the Associate Provost for Research Support, the Research Services Coordinator will be a key team member and contributor to achieving the mission of The New School and ORS.

The successful candidate will serve as a collaborative partner with faculty to enable faculty spending and facilitate research award management activities. S/he will also link faculty with various external entities (i.e. federal sponsors, industry sponsors, foundation sponsors, consortia/subrecipients, pass-through entities, etc.), as well as various internal entities (i.e. Grant Accounting, Finance, Development, Corporate Partnerships and Industry Engagement, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

• award processing for all grants (sponsored research)

• reviewing award terms and conditions

• setting up initial award to establish an internal spending account (using Workday award)

• holding award kickoff meetings to disseminate account/award information

• providing guidance to Principal Investigators on planned award spending

• expediting award management

• issuance of subawards (including completing subrecipient risk assessment, drafting subaward documents/budgets, negotiating, facilitating signatures)

• providing guidance/determination of allowable costs

• advising on account balances

• proactively securing the next increment of funding

• conducting subrecipient monitoring

• tracking/proactively alerting faculty on award deliverables/milestones/deadlines

• initiating/preparing/submitting/setting up any award modifications,

• coordinating/reviewing/submitting reports (technical and financial) to sponsors

• coordinating research financial compliance assurance

• coordinating research integrity assurance and assisting in award closeout matters

Other Responsibilities:

• The Research Services Coordinator will also be involved in operational activities, such as: policy review, process improvement, electronic systems usage and data analysis

• The Research Services Coordinator will help to implement support tools, such as timelines, checklists, templates, published standard operating procedures, guidance documents, web information, etc.

• The Research Services Coordinator will play a backup role in ORS concierge services, funding solicitation interpretation, proposal budget building and preparation of applications for external funding

• The Research Services Coordinator may be involved with conducting trainings for faculty, staff, and students

Minimum Qualifications:

• A service oriented core, innate desire to help and problem solving abilities

• Demonstrated deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills

• Ability to effectively communicate complex issues straightforwardly (both verbally and in written communication)

• Ability to work independently on deadlines/schedules and flexibility to accommodate faculty needs

• Dependable, organized, detail oriented, proactive, responsive, open minded and extremely personable

• Bachelors degree (or commensurate professional experience) from an accredited institution

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree from an accredited institution

• Experience in research/grants administration in a higher education or non-profit setting

• Certification (e.g., NCURA) in grants/sponsored projects

• Knowledge of federal funding agencies

• Understanding of requirements for grant awards

• Understanding of research compliance (financial and integrity)

• Familiarity using MS Office, web/CMS platforms, and database management
