Responsibilities:

Eugene Lang College, the undergraduate liberal arts division of The New School, seeks to hire a full-time faculty member who is a scholar-practitioner of music technology in relation to contemporary composing, performing, and listening practices. This position is a Renewable Term Appointment (RTA) beginning July 2018. All hiring is subject to Provost budgetary approval.

The ideal candidate will have facility with current music software and production tools, experience teaching practice-based studio courses and discussion-based seminar courses, and scholarly publications on music technology. Applicants who bring interdisciplinary and/or cross-cultural approaches to their research, teaching, and creative practice will be at a distinct advantage.

Responsibilities: Teach introductory and intermediate courses in music technology and related fields; develop and teach advanced undergraduate courses in areas of interest and specialization; contribute to Lang College’s Interarts curriculum shared by Music, Dance, Theater, and Visual Studies; maintain a productive agenda of scholarly and creative work and professional involvement in music technology and related fields. The teaching load is five courses per year with the expectation of an advising caseload.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications: Doctoral degree in music technology, music composition, performance, musicology, ethnomusicology, or related field, completed by the time of appointment, or ABD with anticipated completion date; recognized scholarly publications and creative projects; successful undergraduate teaching experience in music technology; and interest in contributing to curriculum development for music studies in a liberal arts program.
