Responsibilities:

The Office of Civic Engagement and Social Justice (Lang CESJ) is situated within the Dean’s Office at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts and is dedicated to promoting, supporting and implementing purposeful community-based teaching, learning and engagement within a social justice framework at Lang, The New School and beyond. Lang CESJ is seeking a Communications Assistant for 10-20 hours per week to support daily communication needs that promote the visibility of office programs and share social justice-related opportunities with Lang students. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

- Work closely with Lang CESJ Director and Assistant Director to develop and implement communications and social media strategy for the office
- Serve as key support staff in ongoing new website project
- Actively research and promote relevant event listings, opportunities, and campus programs focusing on social justice themes
- Create and schedule content to publish on Lang CESJ Facebook Page and Instagram account, and develop strategies for increased followers
- Contribute to content development for weekly e-newsletter
- Coordinate blog posts and original writing from Lang students, staff, and faculty

- Federal Work Study applicants only
- 10-20 hours per week
- Reports to: Christina Dawkins, Director and Kendra Danowski, Assistant Director

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Student at The New School, actively enrolled during both Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters
- Strong interest in and/or demonstrated commitment to social justice
- Proficient in Google Apps (including Drive/Docs), Microsoft Office
- High attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to commit to the role from September 2017 through May 2018
- Ability to work between the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in website management, especially with content management tools like Statamic or Wordpress
- Experience maintaining Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts, and knowledge of best practices in social media
- Familiarity with design software for flyers (Adobe Creative Suite)
- Proficient/familiar with e-newsletter apps, such as Tinyletter/MailChimp
- Graduate-level or highly experienced undergraduate student
